The 66th Golden Globes recently held in Hollywood on Jan 11 is a sit down dinner awards show, hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press. Most of Hollywood's royalty gather - such as Brangelino, both nominated for acting awards in The Changeling and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The surprise of the evening was the grand slam win of Slumdog Millionaire for best motion picture drama, best direction by Danny Boyle best screenplay by Simon Beaufoy and best original score by A. R. Rahman. The film is about an orphan from Mumbai's slums who wins the jackpot on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire."
Clearly Tina Fey who made the headlines this year by impersonating Sarah Palin on Saturday night live gave the best acceptance speech of the evening when she was awarded Best reminded everyone at the Golden Globes tonite that the Internet can always cut you down to right size if everything seems to go too well.
And for good luck she told cyber scrooges "babs in la crosse", "cougarletter" and dianefan to "suck it".Actress In A Television Series for 30 Rock.
She reminded everyone the Internet can always cut you down to right size if everything seems to go too well. And for good luck she told cyber scrooges who have given her a bad time on the internet "babs in la crosse", "cougarletter" and dianefan to "suck it".
The TV show with Fey's voice over running through as Liz Lemon is about Lemon's hit variety show, "TGS with Tracy Jordan." 30 Rock also won Best Musical Or Comedy Best Television Series - Musical Or Comedy. The show has been hailed but the humor is not as outrageous as Fey alias Sarah Palin but it has a star studded guest star list including Al Gore and Edie Falco from the Sopranos.
Apparently the Golden Globes was taped in advance and perhaps understandably so with a high amount of expletives thoughout the program to censor. It was telecast live at 8pm though the winners were up on the internet as the curtain lifted. What's that about?
Bad boy Mickey Rourke won best actor for The Wrestler and arrived with greasy hair with highlighted strips, and a maverick ensemble. When thanking Daron Aronofsky and sparring with him, the director gave him the finger. On reruns the gesture was camouflaged. Perhaps this is what Barack Obama meant in his inaugural speech - its time to put childish things aside.
Kate Winslet who has never won a globe before gushed about her gratefulness and thanked the other candidates in the same category for best actress in a motion picture drama, forgetting prima dona Angelina Jolie name. Lots of cutaways in this show and one could not help but notice Jolies irritation. Another cutaway to Brad Pitt revealed him asking, "What did he win that for?" when one of the winners went on stage to get his award. Winslet won both best actress in a drama for Revolutionary Road and best supporting actress for The Reader.
Golden Globes has something for everything, meaning everyone can win for different genres, essentially, motion picture drama, comedy, TV drama comedy and miniseries.
The same TV shows get nominated year after year in a how are we doing kind of rating system, but how the Hollywood Foreign Press thinks is hard to pin down. It is claimed that he or she who wins a Globe wins an Oscar. Sometimes yes and sometimes no that is.
Steven Spielberg was given the Cecil b demile award for outstanding lifetime achievement with clips of his many films over the years and a pretty yawny acceptance speech. Director he is speechmaker he is not.
